One of the many characteristics of the Fundy Coast, Annapolis Basin, and Saint Mary's Bay in South-western Nova Scotia is the coastal fog that lingers well into the early afternoon during the summer months. Happily, we are located in scenic Bear River, just minutes away from all three bodies of water but far enough upstream from the Annapolis Basin that we are not affected by the fog, usually enjoying bright and warming sunshine while the coastline is enshrouded in a damp and chilly mist.
Bear River is the perfect place to get away from the rush and bother of your average tourist-trap town stuffed with fast food, tour buses, and cheesy tchotchke shops. Our community takes great pride in being different, out-of-sync with pop culture, off-beat, and most importantly, off the beaten path. Bear River is also well suited to the weekend traveler from the New England, New Brunswick, or Halifax who is exploring the Annapolis Valley, French Shore, Fundy Coast, or Digby Neck...all these regions of South-western Nova Scotia are an easy drive from here, allowing you a full day to explore and enjoy any one of them.
In addition, Bear River is home to many artists and crafts people who sell their own creations right out of their homes or in their own shops. You could spend a day or two just visiting and experiencing them all and not travel more than 3 miles in any direction from our town.
